UniQ, as in uniq.net.au, has been around for a while, but until now had little propose. Then our daughter, a University Visual Arts student, inquired about hosting for her friends who had, through their various Uni courses, been required to create portfolio style websites.
This initiative by the Universities is an excellent way for up and coming designers and artists to market themselves to prospective employers, but the concern was raised – what happens to their websites when they finish their courses? Their websites are hosted on University resources which will no doubt be required for future students!
Our core business has been offering internet services and running web servers since 1995. It was a simple matter to add another hosting service aimed at the on-going and graduating University sector to fill the perceived need.
There are indeed a multitude of alternatives and competition for hosting services. We do not pretend to compete with the “free” or cut-price services. Your portfolio website should present yourself and your work as professionally as possible. Random ads for someone else or their products may make you look unprofessional in the eyes of a prospective employer).
